Maarud

The factory

Our production facility is in Disenå, in the heart of potato country by the Glomma River, next to Maarud Gaard – where the adventure started in 1936. Just behind it is our potato storage, where we keep all the potatoes that are not used immediately after harvest. This allows us to produce potato chips all year round.

Automatic washing and peeling
The production process begins with the potatoes being washed, peeled and sliced before they are blanched and boiled in vegetable oil. All washing and peeling is automatic, and the water used is of course led back to our treatment plant before being returned to nature.

After the boiling, it is time to flavour the potato chips with various seasonings. In only a few minutes, raw potatoes travel through different conveyor belts before they are portioned and finally end up in their respective bags.

Other types of snacks
Right next to the potato chips production facilities is the production area for other types of snacks, including what we call shaped snacks. This is where products like Potetskruer and Sombreros are made. These are crafted from potato or cornflour that is mixed, shaped, dried and quickly fried before being seasoned with different spices.

Finally, all the products end up on pallets in the warehouse at the very back of the production facility, ready to be delivered to your local store.
